Key messages

As more Earth systems near critical tipping points, it’s never been more vital to understand the warning signs and the changes that can spark collapse.

With this aim in mind, TipESM, ClimTip and other project like OptimESM, ESM2025 and OCEAN:ICE will meet in Paris on April 7-10 for a two-day scientific conference, featuring five themes related to tipping points research:

  • Cryosphere
  • Biosphere, including the Amazon
  • AMOC, sub-polar gyre and uncertainties regarding projections
  • Tipping points prediction methodology
  • Impacts and communication of tipping points research results

Other international initiatives and global climate models, like TIPMIP or EC-Earth, will also be represented at the conference.

To round-off the event, the two projects will engage in a half-day cross-project workshop to ensure effective knowledge sharing. The projects are also working on arranging a local outreach event to communicate and promote the scientific knowledge emerging from the projects to relevant local audiences.
