Key messages

On January 24, 2025, the MAIA project will hold its first EU Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Knowledge Services event. This online series is dedicated to exploring the challenges knowledge curators and knowledge managers face when it comes to managing knowledge services.

Knowledge is key to tackling climate change. One of MAIA’s objectives is to make relevant knowledge more accessible and easier to locate and use for different European stakeholders. Recognizing that the quality of knowledge is as important as the service delivering it, we also focus on optimising knowledge services.

This event is open to service and application developers, content curators, and knowledge and information managers who want to collaborate, share technologies, and explore innovative solutions.

Participants are invited to engage with peers in discussions about the challenges and obstacles in developing such a service and to share insights and recommendations from their experience.

In addition, MAIA project representatives will share their experiences of AI-enabled knowledge management and explore ways to integrate AI into climate change knowledge services. We will also explore how these tools and insights can benefit participants, enhance outreach and maximize the impact and offering of knowledge service.

Aim

Key workshop objectives include:

  • Peer-to-peer engagement and networking.
  • Discussion of challenges and obstacles of knowledge service development and information and knowledge management (quality, usability, etc.)
  • Exploration of solutions for information management (content creation and knowledge extraction) for knowledge services.
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange, best practices and lessons learned around knowledge services.
  • Showcase the MAIA Project’s tools and services and their application in supporting knowledge curators and knowledge service owners.

MAIA tools include:

Our tools empower users (e.g., knowledge curators and knowledge service owners) to extract valuable information, connecting knowledge, and improving their own service offerings:

  • SumQA streamlines information retrieval and enhances efficiency by analysing uploaded PDF documents and generating answers to user-provided questions using a specified LLM. This saves users time and effort by extracting relevant information and compiling it into an easily accessible file, eliminating the need for manual document review.
  • The Climate Connectivity Hub is a “search and discovery” tool that helps users find relevant knowledge and organizations working on climate change and disaster risk issues. The Hub is a testbed for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning techniques to produce new, policy-relevant insights.
  • MAIA Discovery Services enable regional stakeholders to implement climate action projects aligned with local climate adaptation and mitigation goals by connecting them to tailored service offerings. It enhances community platforms with “climate intelligence” and supports R&D projects in transforming results into marketable services, fostering partnerships, licensing, and implementation roadmaps.
