LOCALISED project showcases climate action tools at ECCA 2025

Playing a key role in the conference
The LOCALISED project was front and center at this year’s European Climate Change Adaptation (ECCA) conference, held in Rimini from June 16-18, 2025. As an official sponsor and participant, LOCALISED took the opportunity to present its innovative findings, network with leading figures in climate action and demonstrate the practical tools created throughout its four-year journey.
Throughout the conference, the LOCALISED exhibition booth served as a dynamic hub for showcasing project outcomes and connecting with a diverse range of stakeholders.
But that wasn’t all that was on offer…
Facilitating insightful discussions
On June 17, the project and its sister projects — I-CISK, ReachOut and RethinkAction — co-hosted a session exploring how EU-funded programs can strengthen climate responses at national and local levels.
The discussion, entitled “Cross-sectoral and Multi-scale Climate Services: Expanding Mitigation and Adaptation Efforts,” spotlighted the transformative potential of scientific tools in shaping local climate policy. The session fostered lively knowledge-sharing and dialogue about scaling up successful strategies across Europe.
As Project Coordinator Pr Jürgen Kropp of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) noted “Scientific insight is crucial for shaping policy. It provides a clear, evidence-based understanding of complex social, environmental, and economic issues, enabling the development of effective solutions. Without this foundation, political decisions may lack long-term vision or even cause unintended harm, especially in fields like climate change, health, energy, and digital transformation. Our team develops interactive dashboards, early warning systems, and risk assessments to support informed decision-making. As researchers, we prioritise transparency and accessibility, ensuring our findings are clear and available to policymakers and the public.”
A chance to try out the tools
Later that afternoon, a hands-on brokerage event allowed participants to experience the latest tools developed by the projects. LOCALISED introduced the Climate Action Strategiser (CAST), a cutting-edge platform designed to help communities seamlessly integrate mitigation and adaptation strategies. The team welcomed valuable feedback from users, aiming to refine and enhance the tool’s impact.
“CAST gives cities and regions the power to fast-track their climate planning, turning sustainability goals into practical, achievable actions at the local level.”

Wrapping up a successful project – and looking to the future
As LOCALISED moves into its final stages, ECCA 2025 provided a special occasion for the consortium to come together, recognize collective accomplishments, and celebrate the spirit of collaboration that transcends institutional lines. Looking ahead, the team will focus on finalising deliverables, sharing lessons learned, and ensuring that the tools and knowledge developed continue to drive meaningful climate action long after the project concludes.
